Student Testimonials

FLF 102, Fall '21

“Charlotte Bulkeley was an amazing TA. She was very helpful and kind. She was great at motivating students and also explained things very well if they were hard to understand. She always seemed excited to be teaching.”

FLF 102, Fall '21

Professor Bulkeley is very understanding and really strives for the student to have complete comprehension of all topics. Energetic lectures that are active with participation, overall made the French language less intimidating and made herself available for all questions. Really appreciated developing my knowledge of French.

FLF 102, Fall '21

“The instructor was very personable and really took the time to understand what each student was struggling with and implemented exercises in class to help us. It also helped that we had a very small class so that allowed for more one-on-one interactions and activities. I also really liked that she included pop culture references in her lectures, it made class more fun.”

FLF 102, Fall '21

The course moved at a great pace and the workload was not too much. Charlotte made sure that everyone understood the topics and had a lot of activities that helped.”

FLF 102, Fall '21

Very engaging even when the students were not bringing the best energy Great use of memes and music to aid in understanding SOOO many helpful resources You are such a sweet and understanding professor with a gift for teaching!.”

FLF 102, Fall '21

The instructor was very nice and worked with you in class to figure things out of you were struggling. She was also very patient and explained everything very well. I enjoyed the small classroom atmosphere as well because it allowed for me to get a better understanding of the course and its material.

Very understanding with missing due dates and will always work with students to make sure all their assignments get done. I mention below that if you're bad at listening to French it is hard to keep track of what is going on, but I feel the instructor is pretty good about realizing when students are lost so she knows when to repeat what she said either more slowly, or repeat it in English

FLF 102, Fall '21

Very engaging in the classroom. Did a great job with getting students immersed in the content by calling on students. Consistently gave positive and encouraging feedback with right or wrong answers. Very upbeat, welcoming, and encouraging. Immersing the class in real world activities- this was an example of the diverse lesson plans offered by the instructor that helped test student’s understanding in different areas of learning. Did a good job of offering support in the class with questions and outside of class. Checking for understanding (ex: asking for examples, applications of the language in different settings) is a strong trait.

“Professeur Bulkeley is always very kind and enthusiastic during class. She responds to questions over emails very quickly. She also does a good job of making sure that we are prepared for all of our tests, OJP, and quizzes. Whenever one of us has a question in class, she always takes the time to answer it. I also think that she cares about us as individuals, and takes our lives and day to day stresses into consideration when teaching her class. She is always understanding when we communicate with her about something else in our life that might interfere with her class, and works to accommodate whatever that might be.”

My instructor was extremely understanding and accommodating. She taught the course extremely well and understood most of the issues we went through."

Sometimes, students share helpful feedback after tutoring and office hours sessions. These lightbulb moments are some of the most rewarding of the job and solidify what tools and strategies are helpful for students. In addition to helping students understand class material, supporting students in learning to love learning is the cherry on top.

Mentor Comments

FLF 101, Fall '20

“The instructor had a positive and enthusiastic demeanor. Always positive and approachable. The instructor modeled activities well for students. The instructor could also have encouraged the students to speak more of the target language in down time between activities. Otherwise, the activities were interesting and engaging. Transitions were logical and smooth. Well done!"

FLF 101, Fall '20

“The instructor created a friendly atmosphere for learning and showed a positive attitude to students, while using the target language exclusively.”
